4) Fantastic Places – Mini Project
Your task (credit to Mr Potter for these instructions)
You are going to select a place that you think is a fantastic place geographically. This should not be a place that you have already studied. This should make people go WOW when they look and read about it.
Your place should be focused on Physical Geography.
You are going to produce an A3 colour poster which is designed to convince other people that the place you have chosen is a fantastic place and should be selected as one of the new natural wonders of the world. There will be a class vote to find the best places from each class and then a display and completion among all year 7 classes to find the best posters.
Your poster should include the following:
1. Maps to show the exact location.
2. A brief description of the natural environment of the area; climate, vegetation, wildlife and landscapes.
3. Labelled photographs to describe the main features of your chosen place.
4. A description of how the geographical processes created the area/feature you have chosen.
5. A sales pitch as to why this place should be chosen as a new wonder of the natural world.
Your poster should be eye catching, attractive and clear.
Maps and photographs should be titled and labelled and sources credited. Make it as professional looking as possible.
Remember your poster should make people want to choose YOUR location as a new natural wonder of the world so sell it as well as you can.
Assessment
You will be assessed on the geography content of your poster:
- Appropriate geographical terminology
- Relevant facts about the place showing understanding of geographical ideas involved in the landscape
- An explanation of the processes involved in formation
- Your use of geographical skills such as mapping and labelling of photographs and diagrams
