6) The Causes of the 2011 Thailand Floods – Part B
One double lesson and two homework activities
Your task is to work in a pair and create a large poster which explain in detail what you both think were the 6 most important causes of the 2011 floods in Thailand. The poster should look something like this (click on the picture for a larger version):
You will use the information and understanding which you gathered from Part A – the Wanpen Mystery.
Instructions
> Causes should not be exactly the same as the cards from the Wan Pen mystery – some causes may include information from more than one card
> You will divide the 6 causes between them, taking 3 each.
> Ideally you should have two separate groupings (called categories) so that you each explain a different type of cause. On the poster above, you can tell there are two groups (categories) because there are two separate colours.
> Each student has to prepare equivalent of 1.5 sides of A4, using half a side of A4 for each of your three causes. You can do this separately e.g. partly for homework, and your work will be assessed separately. You will then stick these on the large poster and show where they apply to on the map in the middle.
> The map in the middle can be downloaded here and should be printed / photocopied to A3 size – which shows how big the whole poster is.
Helpful diagrams
It is good to think of how the causes look as diagrams. Here are a few diagrams to help you with some of the possible causes. Using diagrams like these can help you to write more detail in your explanation.
